Percorsi stellati/Starred Journeys: Al Pont de Ferr (Milano)

For my 46th birthday I decided to give me an intriguing gift: a lunch with my love at “Al Pont de Ferr” Restaurant. Located in the charming area of “Navigli” in Milan in Ripa di Porta Ticinese 55, Al Pont de Ferr (that literally means “at the iron bridge”…one of the bridges of the Naviglio Grande) was able to maintain the typical atmosphere of a traditional italian tavern but proposing superb gourmet food under the great guidance of the Uruguayan Chef Matias Perdomo. The restaurant is awarded with One Michelin Star since 2012.

As usual at the first visit I opted for a tasting menu, you can choose among different options: La Tradizione (Tradition), Acqua (Water), Terra (Earth), Fuoco (Fire), Aria di Follia… (Madness in the air…), but you can also use the menu a la carte

I chose the menu “La Tradizione”, the most typical one, the one with the historical masterpieces of Perdomo. I thought that for the first time this was the most appropriate choice for me. The menu consists of 5 dishes that can change overtime. In my case I had:

  • Cipolla rossa di Tropea di zucchero soffiato ripiena di formaggio di capra fresco e cipolla caramellata (candied version of the red onion from Tropea filled with fresh goat cheese)…maybe one of the most famous dishes of Perdomo
  • Sashimi di filetto di bue, foie-gras, umeboshi, salsa bernese (Sashimi of tenderloin beef, foie-gras, umeboshi, bearnaise sauce)
  • Ravioli di risotto allo zafferano (omaggio a G.Marchesi) – (Ravioli of saffron risotto – Tribute to G.Marchesi)
  • Pluma di maiale iberico lasciata rosata, servita con crema di burrata e ricci di mare sardi (Pluma of iberian pork, burrata cheese and sea urchin sauce)…another masterpiece
  • Sigaro di cioccolata ripieno di mousse di cioccolato al tabacco con gelato al rhum (Chocolate sigar, a scent of Montecristo and rhum ice cream)…probably the craziest one…you eat a nice chocolate sigar while smelling a true montecristo cigar smoke…

What a great lunch! Overall an experience definitely repeatable! Lucky me for living in Milan…
