Located inside The Peninsula hotel at The Bund, Yi Long Court claims to be the best cantonese restaurant in town. The ambience is very elegant, the service really impeccable, the food is delicious under the guidance of chef Dicky To from Hong Kong.
I had a quite interesting choice:
- Cantonese roasted goose, traditional Hong Kong-style barbecued meat.
- Enriched organic tomato soup with superior bird’s nest. This dish deserves a special mention. The nests have been used in Chinese cooking for over 400 years, most often as bird’s nest soup. Bird’s nest is probably one of the most expensive food in the world. It’s made of interwoven strands of bird’s salivary laminae that once dissolved in water turn into a gelatinous texture used for the soup. My soup had a very delicate taste. Overall quite good, even if i prefer other kind of food. But definitely an experience I would recommend.
- Steamed grouper with light soy sauce, very delicate fish cooked cantonese style
I personally don’t have so much experience of chinese cuisine…but if not the best, Yi Long Court is definitely one of the most expensive…having said so it’s worth a visit.
